He and his wife Kathy have built a business through attention to detail, quality design and manufacturing and providing “real world” solutions to “real world” problems. When boaters of all kinds have an issue with operations or parts, they call on Bob who has a relentless pursuit of perfection and refuses to build anything that he wouldn’t put on his own boat.
Perhaps best known for the first marine hydraulic steering system and other innovations conceived, birthed and tested in the highly abusive sport of powerboat racing, Latham Marine provides engineering and component solutions not only for competition but pleasure cruising, sport yachts and fishing boats. The company also has a long-history of work with law enforcement, emergency services and military vessels, where reliability is literally a matter of life and death. “Everything I build is over-engineered, beyond the industry standard,” Latham says and his contributions to the industry earned him the National Marine Manufacturers Association’s Alan J. Freedman Memorial Leadership Award.
